It’s human nature to push boundaries. On October 12th 2019, Eliud Kipchoge redefined the limits of human achievement by breaking the last great barrier of modern athletics completing the sub-two hour marathon in a time of 1:59:40.2
It was a triumph of human performance, sports science and technology. It cemented Eliud’s mantra that No Human Is Limited.
We want to inspire people around the world to question the limits that we put upon ourselves, both mentally and physically. To realise that if they take the breaks off in their heads and believe, the impossible is possible.
The INEOS 1:59 Pace Challenge is a global running challenge where you train with the aim to complete 352.6m in under 1 minute, representing the speed at which Eliud covered the marathon distance.
To continue his legacy, we are launching the INEOS 1:59 Pace Challenge a global running challenge where participants can match Eliud’s historic pace and aim to complete 352.6m in under 1 minute.

“The INEOS 1:59 Challenge has a special place in my heart, since then I have experienced that many people felt inspired to either start running or to take of the brakes in their heads and achieve what they want to achieve. I like to inspire people through running, therefore I ask runners to take on the challenge to run my pace from the 1:59 challenge.”
